History
Alliance Steel Corporation® is a metal service center that processes and sells carbon steel, Aluminum and stainless steel coils, sheets and plates.
1949: Founded in 1949 by Jack Deitcher and his father, Isaac, the company’s early activities were in the recycled scrap metal sector.
1956-1976: Incorporated in 1956, Alliance Steel Corporation® changed its focus to the distribution of flat rolled steel, and during the next two decades became recognized by the Canadian mills as a full service steel service center.
1976-1986: Alliance Steel Corporation® initially operated out of rented premises in east end Montreal and in 1980 moved its operations to Laval to a property which included a warehouse of approximately 43,000 sq. ft. Michael Deitcher and Glenda Susser, son and daughter of Jack Deitcher joined the company in 1976 and 1984, respectively, and in 1986 Alliance Steel Corporation® bought its first cut-to-length line (Delta Brands line) in order to become more vertically integrated and independent.
1997: In 1997, faced with both a lack of space and capacity, Alliance Steel Corporation® embarked on an expansion program which lasted 15 years. The first construction project increased our warehouse by 31,900 sq. ft. for a total area of 75,000 sq. ft. and included the purchase of a Red Bud cut to length and blanking line; the first in Canada.
1998-2003: Over the following six years, Alliance Steel Corporation® continued to grow. The property adjacent to ours was purchased in 2000, which provided Alliance Steel Corporation® with an additional 151,000 sq. ft. of land as well as an office building which was fully renovated in 2001; in 2002 Alliance Steel Corporation® installed a Red Bud heavy gauge cut to length and blanking line and in 2003 construction was completed on a new coil bay of 30,000 sq. ft.
2003-2006: In 2003, we also added the Aluminum product line. This was in response to many of our customers who claimed that they could not get the same level of service and quality for their Aluminum needs as we were providing them for steel. In 2006 we were awarded the Prix Dunamis for Distributor of the Year by the City of Laval to recognize Alliance Steel Corporation®’s vision in extending its range of products to better meet market demands. In 2006, Alliance Steel Corporation® also celebrated its 50th anniversary which was commemorated by an aerial photo commissioned by the employees.
2009: In 2009, we added the stainless steel product line.
2012: Success in the non-ferrous product lines required us to add a light gauge leveler to our Red Bud heavy gauge line and to proceed with another expansion project in 2012 which added 41,000 sq. ft. to our warehouse and which focused on providing space specifically designed for storage and processing of Aluminum and stainless steel. Our warehouse was expanded to over 155,000 sq. ft. We installed a state of the art customized Canrack racking system used for storage of Aluminum and stainless steel sheets and plates, as well as specialized processing and handling equipment including side loaders for accessing material in our racking system. This expansion also allowed us to re-design and greatly improve our skid recuperation and wood recycling program.
Today: Alliance Steel Corporation® success over the years has been due to an unwavering focus on quality and service to our customers and to the efforts and dedication of our many experienced personnel.
